Song for Japan Album

Formed into a star-studded group of 38, international artists such as U2, Katy Perry, Beyonce, and others came together and created a special compilation album created to benefit victims in Japan from the disaster.

From March 25th, the album was available for download in iTunes Store in 22 countries and grabbed the top spot in countries like America and France in a total of 18 countries.

On iTunes Japan, this album sells at 1,500 yen and all profits will go to Japan Red Cross in hopes of helping Japan to recover and rebuilt, especially Tohoku areas which were seriously effected from the earthquake and tsunami that occurred recently on March 11th.

Arashi songs popular in disaster area

Requests for positive Arashi songs are proving to be popular in an area worst-affected by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, reports Nikkan Sports.

It has been reported radio station FM Sendai, in Miyagi prefecture, had been getting about 20 song requests every day before the earthquake, but now they are getting 300 to 400 requests.  About 40 per cent of these requests are for Johnny’s songs, with Arashi being the most popular.

The group’s songs “きっと大丈夫 (Kitto Daijyobu)” and “Believe” are some of the more popular songs, and are reportedly helping earthquake and tsunami victims become more optimistic.

FM Sendai will continue to broadcast its shows across the area.  Although songs were not played on air for more than two days following the earthquake, the station had started a half-report, half-music schedule this week.

While there had been a debate about whether music should be played at all following the earthquake, several musicians who had connections with the station’s director had tweeted on his twitter feed saying they wanted their songs played on air if it could help cheer up victims.
